Motus Aquae (String Quartet)

DURATION: Approximately 12 minutes

Mvt. I: Breakwater
Mvt. II: Stillwater
Mvt. III: Whitewater

The three movements of “Motus Aquae” explore the motion of various bodies of water. In “Breakwater,” the ebb and flow of ocean breakers are captured by rising string textures, which tumble over each other before crashing back down. “Stillwater” depicts the placid but mysterious nature of large, silent bodies of water. The quartet is concluded with “Whitewater,” with a cascading primary melody that runs throughout the piece and carries it towards an energetic conclusion.
