“Knoll” refers to a small, gentle hill, which generally stands alone.
Written for a mixed octet of oboe, bassoon, trumpet, acoustic guitar, harp, viola, and double bass, the music of Knoll follows the contour of a single, rolling hill, beginning with a gradual, creeping ascent before tumbling back down again.
Knoll was written for the Riot Ensemble as part of a workshop at the Royal Academy of Music, coached by Brett Dean.
