Get Your Licks In (CHAMBER OPERA)

DURATION: Approximately 20 minutes

Get Your Licks is a darkly comic chamber opera written for five voices (SSSAT) and piano, setting an original libretto by Noah McCreadie.

Notes from the Librettist:
“Get Your Licks In” means to “succeed in hitting your opponent”. It doesn’t necessarily mean that you win the fight.
We meet our ‘Wife’ at a time in her life when she is accustomed to fighting. It’s become her way of concentrating her fury at the multiple betrayals she has suffered at the hands of her adulterous husband. But what happens when fighting isn’t enough? What will our wife do when she finds out that she has been betrayed once more? The answer: Concoct a plan so terrible, so mortifying, that it absolves her of any innocence whatsoever, but, more importantly for her, will once and for all put and end to her man’s promiscuous ways. But will she go through with it? Or is this just all a wild and wicked fantasy of revenge?

Get Your Licks In was first performed at the Royal Academy of Music in March 2025, where it was directed by Sophie Daneman. It was later performed at the Cockpit Theatre as part of the 2025 Tête-à-Tête Opera Festival.
