“Cued Recall” explores the vagueness and ephemerality of our very earliest recollections, before concrete mental images have been formed. I sought to explore the fleeting feeling of nostalgia for a moment in time which can’t quite be remembered, when triggered suddenly by certain sounds, smells, and landscapes. All sonic material in this piece comes from processed field recordings of various recordings of wildlife and human activity which I associate with early childhood in rural Texas. The piece moves between clearly identifiable material, such as birdsong, which “triggers” periods of greater abstraction and development.
