Eric Burton Davis

About

Originally hailing from Austin, Texas, Eric Burton Davis (b. 2000) is a London-based composer and performer whose work spans both acoustic and electronic mediums and includes recent collaborations with filmmakers, animators, librettists, art galleries, and amateur and community music groups.

Eric is fascinated with the manipulation of space and gesture within his music, creating genre-bending compositions which often take inspiration from vast natural structures or elements of human memory. His compositions often operate within small motivic spaces, or within carefully controlled rhythmic or harmonic constraints, striving for music which feels tight-knit and inevitable while retaining an element of freedom and organicism.

Recent career highlights include two premieres with the Riot Ensemble and collaborative performances with the Courtauld Gallery, Pallant House Gallery, and Roberts Institute of Art, as well as an operatic debut at the Tête-à-Tête Opera Festival and electroacoustic premieres in New York (NYCEMF) and Limerick (International Computer Music Conference). Past collaborations include performances with the Ernest Read Symphony Orchestra (ERSO), PHACE Contemporary Music at the Vienna Summer Music Festival, Trio Immersio at the ICEBERG Institute, the Sydney Contemporary Orchestra (SCO), and the Valencia International Contemporary Ensemble (VICE) at the Valencia International Performance Academy.

Following his studies in performance (French Horn) and composition at the University of Oklahoma and the Royal Academy of Music, Eric is now a PhD candidate under a Scholarship the Academy, where he is exploring the use of live electronics in constructing audience-performer interfaces in concert performance settings. Eric is grateful to continue his studies with the support of an Open Academy Fellowship, through which he will continue to pursue his passion for curating quality community music experiences for disadvantaged adults in London and beyond. In addition to his contemporary concert music (both electronic and acoustic), Eric maintains an active interest in conducting, film scoring, music education, and the production and administration of multidisciplinary contemporary music projects.
